What makes this experience unique?
Lam Binh – Na Hang Lake (Tuyen Quang) is a reservoir nestled among limestone mountains. Yet in the imagination of local people, it is more than a man-made lake—it is a landscape deeply tied to memory and legend.
The Tay people tell the story of the “heavenly buffalo tethering post,” a solitary limestone peak rising from the water. It is believed to be the remains of a celestial buffalo that once came down to help humans cultivate their fields. When the buffalo returned to the sky, the tethering post was left behind. Over time, the waters rose and the lake formed, leaving this lone mountain standing quietly in the vast expanse.
Another story speaks of an ancient valley that once held villages and rice fields. A great flood is said to have submerged everything, leaving only mountain peaks rising like islands in a sea of water. From this, the lake was born—a “bay in the mountains,” where rock and water merge into one landscape.
Today, the area is a unique natural scenery: in the rainy season, rising waters create a vast lake ideal for boat trips, SUP paddling, and even swimming in cool, refreshing water; in the dry season, receding waters reveal hills, villages, and traces of the old valley.
What makes this place special is not only its scenery, but the feeling of existing in a space that is both real and mythical—where nature, people, and ancient stories continue to coexist.
